Abstract: Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the greatest Bengali of the millennium and the father of the Bengali nation, has been laid to rest in the present Gopalganj district or historical Kotalipara or Tungipara, about 200 kilometers away from the capital city of Dhaka. Kotalipara is also known to be the capital of Vanga in the sixth century AD. So the history and tradition of Tungipara near Kotalipara in Gopalganj is as ancient as it is important. Sheikh Mujubur Rahman was born in the month of March, 1920. Fifty years after his birth in March, he made the month auspicious and unforgettable in the history of the Bengali nation. He declared the independence of the Bengali people in March and became the Father of the Nation. And now, another 50 years later, the Bangladeshi people have celebrated the Golden Jubilee of independence. In the present paper I try to explore some important aspects of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s life and his ancestral land through the lens of history and archaeology. This research has been carried out with the help of both primary and secondary data. This article can create interest among tourists who try to explore historical places at Tungipara of Gopalganj District.
