Abstract: The Liberation War of Bangladesh was a revolution and armed conflict sparked by the rise of the Bengali nationalist and self-determination movement in East Pakistan, which resulted in the independence of Bangladesh. The teachers, students, officials and staff of Chittagong University had played a significant role during the War of Liberation in 1971. On the eve of the war, the then Vice-Chancellor of the University Dr. Azizur Rahman Mallick, to organize resistance against the possible attack of the Pakistani army, on March 8, chaired the meeting where the ‘Chittagong University Sangram Parishad’ was formed. One teacher, eleven students and three staff members of the University embraced martyrdom in the War of Liberation. Mohammad Hossain, an employee of the Engineering Department of Chittagong University was honored with the gallantry award of ‘Bir Protik’ for his historic role in the War of Liberation. In this research article, an attempt has been made to highlight the various aspects of the Liberation War that took place in Chittagong University in 1971.
