Abstract: There are numerous laws about woman’s rights in the global context. There are many international laws and charters also. Like many progressive countries Bangladesh also has strict laws to protect women’s rights. Despite these laws, women are still being deprived and subjected to torture. As woman are subjected to discriminatory policies and practices, they are also directly and indirectly disadvantaged in the economic and political spheres. A real picture of women’s progress can be seen in various fields especially in the economic fields and in their presence in main stream society. However, despite participating in multidimensional activities, significant efforts to stop torture and violence against women have not been observed. In the field of family law women’s advancement in society is hampered by the absence of equality-based provisions. Efforts that should be made to advance the position of women in the state and society require the establishment of customary rights. The purpose of this article is to analyze the context in which the laws related to women’s rights and protection have been enacted in Bangladesh and to identify the barriers to the laws enacted and the role of the law in taking steps for the welfare of women. At the same time in the perspective of human rights, how the dignity and rights of women in Bangladesh can be evaluated as a part of the history of law has also been tried to be presented in the article.
