Abstract: Maheshkhali is an important place in Bangladesh, an area rich in natural resources. Maheshkhali is a charming island surrounded by sea and mountains. It is well known at home and abroad for its sweet betel leaf, dry fish, salt and fish. Marine resources and forest resources have multiplied the importance of the island. The historic Adinath Temple is located in Maheshkhali. Adinath Pahar (Hill)/Mainakparvat is a place well known in history. It is the oldest cultural monument of Maheshkhali Island. Maheshkhali has two small separate islands named Sonadia and Matarbari. Maheshkhali is a coastal island in the southernmost part of Bangladesh's Cox's Bazar district. There are differences of opinion about the naming of this island. Once Maheshkhali's name was "Adinath-Maheshkhali". The naming history of Maheshkhali is not well known. There are myths and legends about the naming of Maheshkhali. Currently, Maheshkhali is widely discussed and known internationally due to geographical and economic (geopolitics, geostrategic and geoeconomic) reasons. Maheshkhali attracts many tourists every year from home and abroad. Maheshkhali is also an island of unique beauty and a sightseeing spot. Cyclones and natural calamities occur in coastal areas. It can also be seen in the history of Maheshkhali. In this article, an attempt has been made to investigate into the history of naming of Maheshkhali, the date of settlement, and the history of the development of Maheshkhali.
